The story

Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.

What is woke about it

The script spreads competence across the ensemble rather than stacking it in one flawless woman. Wichita jams her shotgun and needs Madison's mace to the eyes, then thanks her and finishes the zombie; Tallahassee boosts Columbus onto the RV roof and drops zombies with twin Berettas; Columbus calls out clock positions under pressure. Madison is the ditzy blonde who trips the alarm and gets told nobody cares what she does, and Little Rock and Berkeley are a matched pair of kids. The Columbia Lady cold open is a studio-logo gag, not a thesis. The ending's home-is-people voiceover lands on the whole makeshift family. Our analysis, written from the synopsis and the published scores

Script analysis screenplay

Not woke; a broad, crude comedy that mocks its own characters equally, driven by genre parody rather than ideology.

The script is a zombie-comedy sequel built on jokes about survival rules and found family, not on identity politics. Wichita is competent and blunt, but she is also shown as emotionally evasive, abandoning Columbus for three months and hiding her sister's departure; her competence serves the plot, not a thesis. Columbus is the anxious narrator, but he gets the romantic reconciliation and moral center. Tallahassee is the aggressive, Elvis-obsessed father figure whose overreaction to Little Rock's musician boyfriend is the butt of the joke, yet he remains the group's protector and leads the rescue. Madison is written as a ditzy blonde joke, and the New Woodstock commune is satirized as naive hipster organic farm-to-table nonsense, with foot-bag, hash and bongoes gags. The villain is a horde of T-800 zombies, not a demographic. Gender dynamics are crude but symmetrical: Wichita mocks Columbus, Columbus mocks Tallahassee, and everyone mocks Madison.Read from the screenplay itself (21,496 words sampled)
